  28.   Assuming, as Andy Hofman mentioned, that your external drive actually _is_
  29. formatted with the FAT filesystem, you may be running aground of another
  30. issue we discovered.

  32.   CrossDOS 6 has a nice utility for automatically figuring out the mountlist
  33. info for a PC hard drive, and automatically mounting it. However, when we
  34. tried this with the SCSI HD from our DEC Alpha (FAT formatted) we discovered
  35. that we still got garbled information on the drive.
  36.  
  37.   This was the boot drive of the Alpha, so I'm not sure if there's some weird
  38. boot junk in there or what. My Intel/WinNT laptop was also unable to read
  39. the drive when it was connected up via the PCMCIA SCSI card. We took it back
  40. to the Alpha and it worked great.

  42.   Summary: Something's funny about SCSI drives formatted with FAT on the
  43. Alpha, and I don't know what it is, or how to work around it. Maybe some of
  44. the Alpha techs that lurk here can elaborate.
